News > HEALTH CUTS - A COMMUNITY PROBLEM

Health Cuts – A Community Problem.

The erosion of the NHS continues apace as hospital cues grow, staffing levels are reduced, beds are lost and essential services are sliced. The privatisation of health care accelerates and politicians and government pay for wars and banker’s bad debt with money which could save our services.

The ‘cost cutting measures’ being implemented mean the very real threat of avoidable illness and death for every woman, man and child relying on the NHS for care.

UNISON members in the Mater, Royal and City Hospital’s who have been weathering the increasingly difficult storm of cut backs and privatisation for some years, are warning of a health care crisis if the continued cuts are not robustly challenged and reversed.

The inevitability of frontline health services being integrated into the community sector on the cheap, the threat of the loss of thousands of jobs and the wholesale destruction of high quality hospital care make this problem a community problem – a problem for everyone.

This is why we face the very real possibility of industrial action by hospital staff in the very near future – staff that have been stretched to breaking point and cannot tolerate the dismantling of appropriate patient care and further threats to their rights as workers.

UNISON health service members are relying on all members of the community for their support in fighting this common problem. You are invited to attend a public discussion -

‘Health Cuts – A Community Problem’ - October 28 @ 7pm – UNISON OFFICE Galway House, 2nd floor  - to discuss how we as a society and community meet the challenges facing us within the health sector.
