News > YOUR NAME IS JUHAR

Your name is Juhar. You are  a 4 year old girl. You live in one of the poorest and most densely populated places on earth. Your life is characterised by chronic shortages of food, medical aid, water, electricity, housing, services, hospitals, transport, – even the most basic human needs are scarce beyond imagining.

But you live. Your mother and father do their best for you and your 7 sisters and your new little baby brother, Muhammad.

You, live hand to mouth, day to day, and no one seems to care. You live in fear.

Terrible large soldiers attack your community. You do not understand. Your friends have been killed. You do not understand. You have seen dead bodies. You do not understand.

You live in one of the most terrifying and destitute places on earth and you are 4 years old – then the Israeli Army launches an enormous missile into your neighbour’s house, which, crushes your tiny body under the weight of your makeshift home. It crushes your brother and sisters and mother and father.

You are Juhar the 4 year old girl from Gaza and you are dead. So are four of your sisters, three others are wounded badly and your new little baby Brother Muhammad’s face is forever destroyed by the explosion that ripped through your home. This case and many thousands of others like it is why people took to the streets on Saturday 3rd January, in Dublin.

 Protest

Girl

Thousands made their way to the protest which was addressed by trade union, political, and community activists from across the country.

Crowd

All of them are demanding an immediate halt to one of the worst atrocities in recent Palestinian history. It is too late for Juhar and her family, but not for Palestine and its people. Unison community and voluntary branch are asking that everyone who can, makes their way to the protests organised across Ireland to condemn the slaughter currently taking place in Gaza – but more importantly to show that we will not stand for the atrocities being perpetrated by Israeli gun men, directed by Israeli politicians and financed and apologised for by western powers, including our own governments.

People are encouraged to:

1. Phone the Israeli embassy in Dublin.  Tel: 003531 6680 303
